  • Assist in office space plans and system furniture layouts via AutoCAD

  • Assist upper management with overall planning of facility space by providing generic space plans and stacking plans

Each year the NYC School Construction Authority offers a Summer Internship Program (“SIP”) for 125 college-bound NYC public high school students. SIP is designed to provide students with exposure to a wide range of careers within the public and private sectors. This is accomplished through a paid, six-week internship at the SCA or with one of our business partners throughout New York City. 


Students recommended for SIP are expected to meet the following eligibility criteria:


1.  Be a New York City public high school student;

2.  Have an interest in one or more of the following career interest areas: architecture, engineering (civil, electrical, mechanical, structural and or environmental), construction management, business, information technology, real estate and or public administration;

3.  Have a grade point average of 80 or higher;

4.  Be available to work full time from July 6 -August 14, 2020; and

5.  Be able to provide original proof of authorization to work in the United States during the SIP registration process during the first week in June at the SCA: this includes original unexpired I-9 documentation and original age appropriate working papers (for those born after July 6, 2002).


In order to be considered for SIP, the following application materials must be submitted to SIP by March 6, 2020.


1.  Completed online SIP application,

3.  Complete official high school transcript, and

4.  Recommendation form (see attached form)


Students are asked to upload their resume as well as their transcript (as a PDF document) to their online application; they may ask their school counselors to send their transcript to SIP electronically. The recommendation form is to be completed by a teacher or guidance counselor and returned directly to SIP electronically. Interviews will be held during the NYC DOE Spring break from April 13-17, 2020, at the SCA. Students will be notified of the selection decisions for the program by May 11. Columbia University's Black Student Alliance is seeking Call for Papers for


To be Presented at Columbia University in the City of New York, Spring 2019 | Hosted by the Black Student Alliance at Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation [BSA+GSAPP]

We solicit abstracts from students in professional schools of architecture, planning, preservation, real estate development and all those fields whose work engages the built domain and production of space. Papers may address any temporal or regional scope, including investigation of contemporary spatial practices. We also invite reflective, as well as speculative work, which may include satire, creative essays, or uncommon forms like review of a studio or project brief. Papers might address, but are not limited to, topics such as:


Smith Group has created the SmithGroup Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Scholarship Program to support and mentor students from historically underrepresented demographics in architecture, interior design, planning, landscape architecture and engineering.  The program’s mission is to provide these students with the opportunity to attain their professional goals while advancing the architecture/engineering/construction (AEC) industry and improving the built environment.

This scholarship includes a one-time award of $6,000 to offset the student's tuition at their current academic institution (5 scholarships will be awarded). Additionally, the scholarship recipient will serve as a paid summer intern at any SmithGroup office in the United States where their discipline is located.

Hunter Roberts has summer internship opportunities available within the NY Operations unit for individuals with a track record of academic success and a deep interest in the industry. Hunter Roberts has several Project Intern opportunities available as well as an opportunity in the Estimating Department and Purchasing Department.
